Bug-tastic adventures were in full swing at the recent Girl Scouts Event for Professional Women in Pest Management (PWIPM), hosted at Plunkett's Pest Control warehouse. Alongside Adams Pest Control and Ecolab, Plunkett's orchestrated an event that celebrated education, empowerment, and enthusiasm as future leaders explored the fascinating world of bugs and the diverse career opportunities within the pest management industry.

The event began with an introduction to PWIPM and the exciting array of STEM careers available in pest control. The girls were then immersed in a series of activities. In a hands-on Lab Entomology experience, they had the opportunity to examine mystery bugs under microscopes and learn how to identify common household arthropods. This interactive session sparked their curiosity and deepened their understanding of the insect world.

One of the highlights of the event was the "Becoming a Pest Technician" activity, where the girls stepped into the shoes of a pest technician and learned how to spot bedbugs and other pests. Armed with flashlights and stickers representing bedbugs, the girls searched a mock hotel room, honing their observation skills and gaining insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of a pest technician.

The event also included a thought-provoking discussion on the regulatory aspects of pest management. Through a role-playing activity, the girls explored the complexities of determining responsibility for pest control treatments in various scenarios. This activity encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving skills, empowering the girls to think like future leaders in the field. Throughout the event, the girls were engaged and enthusiastic, asking insightful questions and eagerly participating in the activities. By providing hands-on experiences and exposure to diverse career paths, Plunkett's Pest Control, Adams Pest Control, and Ecolab are helping to inspire the next generation of leaders in pest management and STEM careers.

The day concluded with a reflection session, where the girls shared their experiences and discussed how the event had impacted their perceptions of STEM careers and the pest management industry. The event was a testament to the power of education and empowerment, showing the girls that they have the potential to make a difference in the world of pest management.

Overall, the event was a resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Plunkett's Pest Control, Adams Pest Control, Ecolab, and the Girls Scouts of River Valley. By engaging and inspiring young minds, these organizations are paving the way for a future generation of STEM and pest management leaders.
